Battle of the Bands Preview

Fusion Nightclub, OrkneyWith only ten days until the first six bands take to the stage in Fusion, it’s time to find out a little bit about them. With only three of the six bands advancing the competition is going to be tight, and while a couple have a bit of experience behind them, we still expect it to be very neck and neck. The first Battle of the Bands post caused quite a stir, so keep it coming: listen to the tracks, and tell us who deserves to be in the final.

Emerjj
Rocky Monster Show As already discussed, opening act Emerjj are a newly formed rock/punk group with lots of support behind them. Vocalist Josh Kent, lead guitarist Malcolm Coghill, rhythm guitarist Ewan Coultherd, bassist Jamie Anderson & drummer Ryan Taylor are all only 12 years old, and got together after performing in The Rocky Monster Show. Emerjj Bebo (they have 72 groupies already!)

Superego
You may know them as: Vanity, 3 Second Memory, Sonic Death Monkey or as they are now, Superego. Yes they do change their name a lot but make no mistake their Music is solid. All 4 members are talented and have strong songwriting ability, like most they started on covers but have developed their own style. You may remember the name Ross Harnden from 4th Dimension as he is their Bassist, but it is guitar that is his forte here. Ian Nelson plays bass, Michael Gillon on drums, Kieran Delanie on Vocals that sound far in excess of his age. (no website)

4th Dimension
This band has been on the scene for roughly two years and feature Magnus Harold on Lead Guitar, Colin Buchan on rythm guitar, Ross Harnden on Bass, and Colin “Mull Nicholson on drums. Front man Sam Francis has a strong stage presence that has served the band well at venues like Fusion and Matchmakers. (no website)

Vague Inspiration
Vague Inspiration The moodiest band in the line-up, emo-kings (queens? just kidding Pete) Vague Inspiration have built up quite a myspace following, and will be hoping that BOTB breaks them out a bit more locally. They enjoy labeling themselves in their spare time, coming up with such mouthfuls as “endemically balanced, monchromatic animists whatever that means. They debuted at our first Orkney Bands gig and put in a strong performance, and have written alot of new material since then. Line-up, info, & listen to tracks: Vague Inspiration Myspace (wow 6000+ song plays to date).

Roll Machine
Best known for supporting Embrace and Sandi Thom at Magfest in July, Roll Machine believe that “your only excuse for not liking heavy metal is being a girl. They feature Ian Craigie on vocals, Max Inkster and Hugh Mainland on guitar, William Mills on bass and John Brown drums. Roll Machine Bebo

Audio Narcosis
Audio Narcosis Having put out their own album this year, Colin & Scott Van Schayk and Gordon Kovachich are already in the process of writing a second. Covering a wide range of styles, from rock and metal to funk, the lucky lads get to finish off the night and forever claim that they were so good they had five support acts. Have a listen: Audio Narcosis Bebo
