It’s Here! Let the battle commence…

Orkney Battle of the BandsYes thats right its what every guitarist and his drummer have been waiting for, Battle of the Bands has been organised and heats drawn. It’s been two years since the last Battle of the Bands when Peters Finger stole the show with their tight performance and much loved covers. There are very few names from the last one, with noticable abscences from the likes of Hivida and the James Bishop Band, who remain highly active.

The rules have also been changed this time round, there are 2 heats with 7 bands a time, set times look to be about 20 minutes, and only one cover is permitted per band.

Heat 1 - September 7th
E-MerJJ
Superego
Quintis Revival
4th Dimension
Vague Inspiration
Roll Machine
Audio Narcosis

Heat 2 - September 14th
Hetty and the Petticoats
25K
Dazed
Blindspot
Feedback
Stave Natives
Showcase Jay

    c’mon E-merjj!! lol! xxx

Well… I think its simply spiffing that the younger generation is getting involved. E-merjj’s young band members may have the confidence to compete against alot of older bands but do they have the skill and experience to pull it off? Well… good on the little lads!

I’m surprised by the amount of bands entering this year with the rule changes. I know we (Vague Inspiration) can do a 45 minute set with no covers but, I didn’t know other bands wrote their own material. Well, apart from Blindspot & Superego. It should be fun this year anyway.

I think there are a lot of really good bands in the comp, but some may not have enough originals, so it may seem like they just flung something together for the event. I think it’s really good though, it’ll mean bands won’t be able to succeed by playing other people’s music, like in the previous event. Hard luck on ‘E-merJJ’, not only being the youngest band, but also having to open the event!

I’m very impressed at the ‘one cover song’ rule, as it’ll mean the bands have to try harder with pushing their own material. I am surprised that there aren’t many returning from the last battle of the bands, but I suppose that’s just back to the usual ’someone went to uni’ problem that young bands always have.

Dont wanna force the issue you know, but predictions anyone?

  7. 7 Miriam

    i agree wi marianne c’mon E-merjj!:P lol

  8. 8 Ian

Ahh, if only I knew who they were lol. I’m not sure what to expect from this years BOTB. Hopefully there will be a good turn out and i’m glad we have a certain gig for a change lol. I would like to see Showcase Jay get through. Also, Audio Narcosis. I can see the bands with more experience of writing their own music going through, like Blindspot and Audio Narcosis, which hopefully means us aswell. Should deffintly be interesting and fun.

  11. 11 The random guy from burray

Emerjj r gonna win all the older bands r 2 old

  12. 12 Ian

I have to agree with ‘the random guy from burray’ that being 4-5 years old has us at a bit of a disadvantage. We’re getting far too old to pick up these instruments, think I may retire ;)

  13. 13 Andrew (Dazed Guitarist)

Just in Stave Natives have pulled out!! Heat 2 only has six bands. My prediction would be that blindspot win the heat not sure about the other spaces, mabye we’ll get one mabye not.

  14. 14 Josh (E-merjj vocals)

Oh crap we have 2 open da event!

  15. 15 Andrew (Dazed Guitarist)

Well there’s a lot of good bands, some average bands and… bands I haven’t heard of. Looking forward to it, anyhoo. Good luck to E-MerJJ. :-)

  18. 18 Pretty Devil

Roll Machine! Roll machine! Roll Machine!

  19. 19 The random guy from burray

Wel i think E-MERJJ wil clearly win because the other bands SUCK @ writing there own material (lol) And that E-MERJJ will just use sngs that no-one will have heard like the balamory soundtrack

  20. 20 The random guy from burray

But i depends …….. (where is this Ian guy from????) The bands that are good are gonna win! clearly ruling out every band that isnt! Showcase Jay and E-MERJJ will come through better than anyone else!
