Luminescent Orchestrii
Published by Matthias August 2nd, 2006 in Gigs.
Complete with the necessary ‘out-there’ name and blurry picture of fiddles, New York’s gypsy klezmer punks Luminescent Orchestrii are playing Woodwick as part of their Scottish tour, heading north “for a month of good chocolate, good beer and good whiskey.” The night promises gypsy melodies, punk frenzy, salty tangos, hard rocking klezmer, and my personal favourite, “unexpected harmonies”.
The Scotsman loved them at last years festival, and they do sound like something very special: “The balancing of frenzy and finesse is evidently a trademark Luminescent Orchestrii approach, displayed to its utmost in the insanely frenetic dance tunes… The three violins flirt willfully with a cacophony teasingly offset by elegant classical flourishes, swirling and eddying above the rhythm section’s bruisingly aggressive but sharply-aimed attack.” **** (four stars) -The Scotsman.
Don’t take their word for it though, have a listen for yourself on their myspace. If you like what you hear, you can catch them at Woodwick on the 13th of August 8pm. Call 01856 751330 to reserve tickets.

Absolutely brilliant! They lived up to the 46 things they’d billed themselves as beforehand and more. One of the best things I’ve ever seen!!
A few people have told me how good this was. sadly I was stuck in with a sore throat. Hopefully I can persuade somebody to do a write-up. They played in Longhope and the Hope as well which is a good thing - Woodwick attracts class acts and will be able to get even more now that they can set them up 3 gigs instead of 2.
