Next Big Thing: Mika!

MikaMikaThe triumphant return of Freddie Mercury! Alright so the Darkness were a fun distraction for all of six days, but this Mika lad ain’t no parody, he is the real thing. This guy sounds like Rufus Wainwright would if he was less pansy, more Scissor Sister, and multiplied by Beck.

Listen to tracks Grace Kelly, Billy Brown & Relax Take It Easy:

Grace Kelly is certainly the stand-out track: it’s impossible to be unhapy with a soaring piano ballad like this booming in the background (or in a poncho, either wll do). Also worth checking out his official site: cute design but unfortunately no downloads on it yet.

great, new sound, The Darkness minus 5 minute guitar solos and high-pitched howling. … plus, he has great hair.

  2. 2 Matthias

that’s how to be successful: sing like freddie and copy my hair

  3. 3 Adam

Not bad at all. I despise The Darkness but despite that, Mika is quite jolly coming from a person who used to love black metal but in the past year has been really getting into indie rock, such as Puressence and Geneva.

Needless to say, I’m a guy who gets bored fairly easy and so unless this guy really has something impressive to offer, I’m not sure it’ll find its way into my CD collection.

This is new fresh funky stuff, really talented!

  5. 5 Ian

Yeah, quite good. He knows what he’s doing, not too fond of that form of singing but Mika shall be successful. Good sound.

  7. 7 gina

  8. 8 Arpan

very cool…. will check him out, seriously (re: buy it)
would definitly cast him for a remake of “Tommy” (good thing or bad thing depending on who you are) love the hair! oh, yea, yours too, Matthias…

A very versatile voice but who is the creative force behind this song?

  10. 10 Anna

    He’s very pretty isn’t he?

  11. 11 Aaron

Bring on the glam. “less pansy, more Scissor Sister”- is that not an oxymoron? Moron!

  12. 12 Marianne

ok i’ve listened to a bit more of his music and i guess hes ok, im still not that keen on that grace kelly song but some of his other stuff isnt that bad! but i still think he has a major problem with posing!! =P xxxxxxxxxxxx

  13. 13 Aaron

I’d say he’s got a bit too much of the Robbie Williams about him for my liking.

  14. 14 Arpan

Mika’s got another myspace at http://www.myspace.com/mikasounds with a different song on it

  15. 15 Matthias

    Great find Arpan!

  16. 16 altin

    he can sing :)
i don’t really like the style, but i hink he’s rather good :)

  17. 17 Creature

    Really great sound.
Mika is new but I thing he will go on.
He knows how to sing and I like his style.

I think I’d have to hear him again to make my mind up. I can see where you’re coming from with the Freddie Mercury thingy, but I don’t like it instantly. Some songs stand out and they’re good enough that I’d like them straight away but not this one.

I just can’t decide if i like him or not!!

Ive listened to the songs a few times and on the one hand I wanted to turn them off as they sounded a bit like a bad car crash of several different styles to which i couldn’t work out what they were “meant” to or at least were trying to achieve. On the other hand, i didnt turn off, but listened to them right through (several times!), intrigued by the haphazard and unpredicatable nature of them and secretely loving the fact they were messing with my head.

His website is wicked and if he is this colourful, energetic and unpredictable in real life, i think he might cause me a seizure if i was ever to meet him.

  20. 20 Dave

This guy sounds fantastic - can’t wait for his album.

  21. 21 Clazz

Hmm, not bad, but I don’t think he’s that great. I do like My Interpretations, though. Generally, I’m not sure what I think.

  22. 22 Diana

    Like his style!

  23. 23 Pete

yeh its all about the hair !!! x

  24. 24 Pete

and the darkness were not a fun distraction fuk mayb it’s not all about the hair its maybe all about vague inspirations hair but ha x

  25. 25 Matthias

yeah yeah pete just because you copied your hair from franz ferdinand and bloc party

  26. 26 Pete

ok matthius thats it u can find yourself a new posterboy !x

  27. 27 Mike

Mika is in desperate need of a new image, he has a transitioning look between a scientist and a magician. I don’t despise his music, but Pop Rock isn’t much of what I am into. I mean, I listen to it, but I would never buy a cd.

  28. 28 Owen

has anyone seen him live anywhere yet? i wonder if it comes across well in person

  29. 29 patsensei

Maybe I will spend a few bucks on his album. If I can save enough money.

  30. 30 Karla

Its alright, I wish i was grace kelly too

  31. 31 Miriam

Bunch of crap, on a stick

  32. 32 Marianne

Hes ok, i wouldnt really want to listen to it again,

  33. 33 Owen

the single’s out now but it’s relax take it easy which doesn’t seem the strongest song.

  34. 34 arpan

I’m not sure, but I THINK an album will be out on Feb 12 2007. I THINK…. (i did a search on hmv.co.uk or whatever it is)

  35. 35 dean

Mika is awesome. I love ‘grace kelly’ and ‘billy brown’, very talented.
